You have to wait until the next version comes out at some stage next
year. Or upgrade to VS2005.

That's no upgrading, that is buying a completely different product,
from a different company, with which it is impossible to use the Delphi
language.

Personally I'd use Visual Web Designer Express with C#.

It's not because VB.Net projects are the default on first start-up that
it doesn't come with C#. It's aimed at beginners, and that's probably
the reason that it comes with VB.Net set as the default language for new
projects.

But it's also aimed at students, and what they are supposed to do with
VB.Net I don't know.

Hi,

I've got the feeling that someone is pre-occupied about VB.NET here.
As a Delphi programmer I think that VB.NET is more like Delphi than C#.
If you do not feel comfortable with the old VB (6.0), then I have to agree
about this.
Some programming tools (and also some web-sites) offer translation
functionallity between VB.NEt and C#
If you put both program fragments side by side then you will notice that
most of the time there are only minor differences betwee VB.NEt and C#, most
noticable are the curly braces of course, where VB.NET uses a begin/end
construction (like Delphi).
I've used VB.NET (1.1 and 2.0) in some projects and had to conclude that
this is a beautiful language and not only for beginners. Also the support
you get in VS2003/VS2005 is better than for C#. Using VB.NET feels more like
using Delphi than using C#. (Besides this, all DotNet languages feel like
using Delphi, which is not a very big miracle if one takes into
consideration who designed DotNet)
Delphi is still my favorite language, but I'm waiting for Delphi 2007 so
that I can use DotNet 2.0 (and hopefully DotNet 3.0 soon)

you can use Chrome, is a Delphi like syntax language (with more options
like constraint programming) and it runs under VS2005 as a plugin.
For people who need .NET 2.0 and can't wait for codegear it's a good
choice.

I do not disagree with this, Chrome has it's own qualities and while
it's language is Pascal like, the differences are significant.

Also i'd never tell it's an upgrade from Delphi because that'd imply
it's a Borland product and a successor to Delphi, which it is definitly
not on both accounts.

Of course, Chrome is not Delphi, but new users coming from Delphi don't
have the "language wall" to break. Some people don't want learning more
than one language and like to "feel at home" when programming. In such
a case it's a good choice. For people who are not affraid of changes,
it's best to chose c#.

The successor of Delphi exists, it's C#, but Borland doesn't keep the
man behind the language, so it's a MS product. Sad story.

As you say, it's a Microsoft product, therefore it must not be, can not
be called a successor to Delphi, because it is not. It is a completely
different language made by a different company and therefore can not be
a successor to Delphi.

There is only one person behind Delphi and C#, the same person. Who
created C# after Delphi. For me this make one the successor of the
other. No matter the brand on the packaging.
Your point of view seems to be headed by a "community" feeling, mine is
only based upon the facts.

This is a completely false statement.
There is not a one single person behind Delphi, nor is there a single
one person behind C#.

It is, and will remain a false statement that C# is a successor to
Delphi.

C# is derived from Visual C/C++, Delphi is derived from Turbo/Borland
Pascal. Which aptly describes the fact why your statements are false
and will remain so.

The designer is the same, no matter how much assistants.

Heil ! So sprach Herr diktator !

You don't know C#.
C# its Delphi with a Java syntax.

> Delphi is derived from Turbo/Borland

Delphi is a specific product having very little to do with Pascal, just
global syntax, you don't know Pascal. Delphi is a POO language, Pascal
has no POO, and even compare to Turbo Pascal, objects are not managed
the same way.

> Pascal. Which aptly describes the fact why your statements are false

That describes that you don't know nor C# nor Delphi, and why your
statements have no interest...
