DCC32 Problems

Hi,

I've checked through the newsgroups and it seems that I'm another
newbie knocking his head against the wall with dcc32. Sorry if I'm
going over old ground but the many posts I've read and the delphi help
doesn't seem to show me the reason for my problem.

I read somewhere that the options on the command line override all
options in the dcc32.cfg and the project config. To make this easier
on myself at the beginning, I'm using the command line to do a simple
compile from a dos bat file. I'm using Delphi 5. I'm compiling one
project and I'm getting one of the famous "Fatal: File not found
<name>.dcu" errors.

The file that it can't find is in a different directory from my
project; it's a utility directory. I did put that utility directory
into the units list using the /uDirectory option. I also put them in
the include and resource list using /i and /r just in case (someone in
a post mentioned that might be an option).

The error message mentions include file in the utility directory.
There isn't much information in that part of the message and the line
number it mentions is the last line in this include file so I think
this is sort of "fake" error. Then it mentions the main pas file in my
project and flags the first line in my uses clause. No surprise, the
first uses file mentioned in the clause is the "missing" dcu file.

It seems to me that my use of the /u option is not working. I'll
mention a couple of things that might help:

   1. The path to the utility file has spaces in some of the
subdirectories. This is delphi 5 and I'm wondering if there is an
issue with that.
   2. In the ide when compiling we have problems with projects
looking for files that none of the pas file have in their uses
clause. To remedy that we do a "build all projects". I put a /B into
this command line in the bat file to "hopefully" make the same thing
happen but no luck.

The command line looks like this when it's run from the dos command
prompt (all on one line):

dcc32 project.dpr /UC:\Company\Work Directory\Source\Util; /IC:\Company
\Work Directory\Source\Util; /RC:\Company\Work Directory\Source
\Util; /B

   Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Fig000

Hi

I'll apologize first for the previous post in this thread. It's been
VERY long time since I've written anything in DOS. To my embarrasment
I'd answered my own question; it was the spaces in the paths that
messed up my command line paramaters. It simply couldn't find the unit
path and the include paths until I put quotes around the paths.

I hope you'll all indulge me one more time. This is really something I
know very little about. I've only started coding in delphi about 6
months ago after years of .net and this is my first experience with
dcc32.

What's happening is that I have a package that is installed in the
ide. For this package I have the code and a bpl. To allow the compiler
to be happy (dcc32), I have to put the directory where the code is for
this package as one of the unit paths (/u). I also tried putting the
path where the bpl is as a unit path.

What happens is this: One of the pas files that is part of this
package declares a variable to be of form type; the form type is
declared in another pas file. The second file IS in the uses list of
the first file. The first file then does a case test on a property of
the form type declared in the other pas file. This causes an error; it
says the property is not declared. The property is actually a
combobox.

I've compiled this same project in the ide with no problem. And with
my dcc32 bat file, I've made sure that the directory that holds both
of these pas files is in the units list (/u) so it should be able to
find both files.

I'm not sure if this is some weird quirk in dcc32 and the use of
component packages. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
fig000
