Is dbExpress for VCL only? I tried to drag a dbExpress MSSql connection and I can't drag it anywhere I have found yet. Is something busted? Shouldn't I be able to drag those? I can drag all the BDPs.

Let me clarify that. I believe I did drag and drop the dbExpress connection to a VCL window. How would I use it on a WinForms? Is it VCL only? How do I use dbExpress from a web app, both DotNet and not?

Ah Ha! I finally found a page in the help that had a diagram showing the relationship of the different database access objects! It was here: ms-help://borland.bds4/bds4dnetguide/html/VCLNetOv.htm

From what I understand, dbExpress is only available under VCL. So, like you found in the help diagram, it will work under .NET if you use VCL.NET. I found it to work much better under Delphi 2005 than Delphi 2006. In fact, I had upgraded to D2006 and had to back down to D2005 because of all the problems. One problem is in the IDE. Because of the new WideStrings support, the TSQLConnection's parameters are now WideStrings. Delphi 2006 IDE incorrectly assumes you need the WideStrings unit (you do under Win32, but not .NET) and forces it to be added to the uses clause. You have to remove the component from the form or datamodule and create it manually in code. There were other issues that arose, but I just moved back to D2005. Because of this and other frustrations I had, I will probably never do dbExpress in VCL.NET again. I would rather keep the project in Win32 or rewrite it using ADO.NET. -- David Cornelius http://corneliusconcepts.com "Mark Tiede" <mtiede@mjwcorp.com> wrote in message news:45c8928a$1@newsgroups.borland.com... > Is dbExpress for VCL only?
