Validating XML document against a schema (XSD)

I'm having a tough time validating an XML document against a schema using
Delphi 2007 Win32 (under fully patched XP). MSXML will not throw an error on
an invalid document. I'm setting the poResolveExternals and
poValidateOnParse options. The schema is referenced in the schemaLocation
tag.

XMLSpy validates it. And the Xerces DOM Parser validates it too.

I'm assuming that none of the DOM Parsers are embedded in the exe, so it's
best to use MSXML. Is that correct? I have MSXML 6 installed on the machine
(looking at System32) - along with others. Not sure which one Delphi is
finding. How can I check?

Anyone managed to get MSXML validating against XSDs in D2007?
