Ib Console version 8.1.0.265 does not show triggers on views, when you
select the view and metadata. Would be nice.

thanks,
joseph

Views can not have triggers.

That is not correct. See the Data Definition Guide discussion on using
triggers to make views updateable.

OK, never to old to learn :-)
Nevertheless, IBConsole relies on the IBX, it only shows what IBExtract
returns for metadata.

	So it's an IBX feature request, then.

As as user all I know is that I am using IBConsole not IBX. Although, this
is not a bug, fault or error, but a "would like to have" :-)
.

thanks,
joseph

	You can see the triggers via the triggers node, just not in the VIEW
DDL.

Indeed, I hope Jeff is listening.

Good thing IBExtract has done that from day 1 then. If you pass the extract
type of etTrigger on an eoView it also extracts the trigger code (lines
2499-2504 in the current IBExtract.pas file).

     eoView :
     begin
       ListViews(ObjectName);
       if etTrigger in ExtractTypes then
         ListTriggers(ObjectName, etTable);
     end;

Thanks Jeff.
Is there also a way to use TIBTable for updatable views in editmode?

Should work, but I've never tried it. TIBTable is so rarely the correct
component in C/S work I have never used it in any kind of environment even quick
tests. Only when someone reports a bug in it do I drop one of those on a form.

Jeff,
I can't get it to work. In objectwindow when the data of an updatable
view is displayed using the TIBTable component you can not add, modify
or delete records. I already took a look in the IBTable source. What I
understood from it you disable editing of system tables and
multitables(views) in InternalGetUpdatable.

Well it might not work. I do no work on IBTable except for bugs. I will not be
adding features that make it more likely people will use it since it is a poor
choice in almost all situations. For Views all the fields come back as read
only even with triggers on the view. This means I have to do more work to
determine views and determining what fields actually map to a real underlying
field. This would greatly slow down the component. It won't be changing it wrt
views.

	Provided that the VIEW is updateable, IB allows any field in a VIEW to
be used in an UPDATE statement, whether or not it maps to an underlying
field. Those which don't are simply ignored. So it's probably correct
to make them all read/write in this case.
