IB 6 on Quad-core problem

I have an old program developed with Builder C++ and uses IB 6, which ran on
a W2K 1GHz system. It ran fine on this system. We replaced the system to a
Quad-core XP one. It takes over a minute for the application and ibconsole
to connect the the database. Once connected, it appears to run fine. Is
this a known problem with dual/qual core systems?

I installed the app and db on my XP laptop (single core) to see if it's a XP
problem and it connects quickly...

Thx.

Try attaching IB to a single processor as follows.

Get imagecfg.exe from \support\debug\i386 on your OS CD

Then run from CMD:

imagecfg -a 0x1 C:\Program Files\Borland\interbase\Bin\ibserver.exe

To permanently make IBServer run on one 'CPU'

In addition to what Bill said, on Windows XP, do not use the '.gdb' file
extension for your database. Use something else, InterBase itself doesn't
care.

gdb is used in System Restore on XP, that means that when this feature
is turned on, each time the file changes (when you connect), XP will
make a backup copy.

Bill,

Thanks for the information, we are currently adding records/changes this
week, but will give it a try tomorrow...

Martijn,

Thanks for the reminder, I now recall reading about that some time ago.

Craig.
