I am having terrible trouble installing Interbase 6.0-1 on RedHat Linux 7.0. I installed RedHat 6.0 on a rubbish 486 and then installed interbase 6.0. It all installed super. I have just scrapped an NT server P200 and loadded RedHat 7.0. On RH 7.0 I can install the orginal interbase 6.0, but when I install V6.0-1 using the rpm version I gat a database error and am told to rebuild the database. I have tried this but it does not work. I am then into a reinstall of RedHat because rpm -q says the package is not installed but trying to install using rpm -i tells me the package is already installed. I have tried both the basic version and the SuperServer version, they both exhibit the same problem. Can anyone tell me the difference between Classic and Superserver? I would appreciate any help. A friend finally got IB 6.0 classic to run on my RedHat 7.0 However, as I said, he could only get classic running, and when he did, he couldn't get IB console to run on a Win 98 workstation to remotely manage the server. I get a response from IB console of "this feature will be supported on later versions". Anyone have any better experience.
