I think this cannot be a justification. What about SQL-92 support? This form of query is not excluded by this specification.. I made a research and I found that this problem is "born" and reported in Interbase 6. This is not the result of an accurate design, but this is a bug: why some mixed queries work and some other not? I think you should fix it.
