SQL Queries to Paradox or dBase files

I am still in the learning stages of Intrabuilder as an application and am
having serious problems with using SQL queries in any of my test
applications. The problems appear when I use the WHERE clause of a SELECT
statement. On simple Paradox / dBase tables, SQL statements such as:

  SELECT * FROM "PassTabl.db"

return the entire table, as it should. However, once I change this to the
following:

  SELECT * FROM "PassTabl.db" WHERE ("GroupID" = '12345')

only an empty set is returned. The contents of "PassTabl.db" are as
follows:

GroupID (Alpha-10)	Passwd (Alpha-10)
12345 ABC
98765 ABC2
34567 ABC

The Select statement above to me seems like it would logically work. I
have thought that perhaps Intrabuilder doesn't like "=" on an Alpha field.
So, I modified the statement to:

SELECT * FROM "PassTabl.db" WHERE ("GroupID" LIKE '%12345%')

Still no result. I've also attempted to change the ' to ", and vice versa
with no luck. I receive no errors, whether Intrabuilder, JavaScript or
BDE. I simply receive no result sets. I have also attempted to create
other tables, both in dBase and Paradox, like the example in Intrabuilder's
FAQ #153. They too resulted in an empty result set.

It appears that once I add the "WHERE" clause, SQL searches cease to
function.

Any ideas????

					Thanks,

Hi John,

I think you should quit the quotes when you reference the database
field:

SELECT * FROM "PassTabl.db" WHERE (GroupID = '12345')

Good luck,

Niels

Niels,

Yup. That did it. I guess I'll be a little bit more scrutinous when I
look at some of Borland's examples from now on. I still can't believe it
was something that simple. :)
