JBuilder 2005 Developer hanging during build

I thought it was hanging, but it is actually taking a very long time, much
longer than I expect after having used JBuilder 7 Enterprise on the same
machine.

I am running JBuilder 2005 Developer as a trial on the same Debian Linux
machine I have a licensed copy of JBuilder 7 Enterprise.

A build of the same project works quickly on JBuilder 7.

Any idea what might be going on?

I noticed JB2005 checking all packages and linked libraries for changes
during every project wide make or build.
This is what's taking the time, the actual compilation is fast.
When making a single class performance is good, no more than a few seconds
(and that's including disk access) on a rather slow machine (my office PC is
extremely memory starved, sometimes during a build operation it gets down to
under 700KB available RAM).

What may also cost time is the on demand loading of elements of the IDE
(like the compiler stubs), something that I think older versions didn't do
leading to a slight increase in the time needed for a buld operation..

Of course JB2005 being a more complex and larger product compared to JB7 (or
in my case JB4) takes up more system resources of its own.
