Well, let me give you all that I can.  I have the Jbuilder 2005 ent 
trial.  I created a small program that just changes the LookAndFeel in a 
running program (not the ide).  When I switch from any of the 
LookAndFeel's to the borlandLookAndFeel the Metal LAF doesn't go back to 
the New look it has with java 5.  I will try to include pictures.

Here is the code I used:

try{
	UIManager.setLookAndFeel(
		"com.sun.java.swing.plaf.windows.WindowsLookAndFeel");
	SwingUtilities.updateComponentTreeUI(Frame1.this);
} catch (Exception e){
}
