This is the same problem you were seeing in your GroupPhotos class.  
You have a non-opaque component that is not painting its entire area.  
The result is that nothing paints it, and since Swing uses double 
buffering, what gets painted is whatever was left in the buffer.

Adding  super.paintComponent(g);  at the top of the DrawSineWavePanel 
paintComponent() method should fix the problem.
