Are you sure that adjusting the time in your Java program is the right solution? It seems to me that if the OS isn't configured to use daylight savings time then either a) the OS is right, and you shouldn't be changing the time to disagree with that correct configuration. b) the OS is wrong, and the OS's time configuration (not your program's) should be fixed. If I was a user somewhere like Indiana in the US where they don't observe daylight savings time, I'd be kind of irritated if your program started telling me it was an hour earlier or later than all my clocks tell me. -- Gillmer J.
