If you want to capture images, it might be easier to use a non
web-applet, and have the capture program place the pictures somewhere
where they can be published. You may want to research the cameras a
bit and find out what interfaces are available for you to work with as
far as picture capture.. they may come with something that does that
already, so you would merely need to just point there, or write
something that publishes /makes available pictures per certain
criteria.

Say you have a web cam that gets a beach shot every 10 minutes. You
might want to get just daylight shots or something, and publish just
those.
