Saving changes to detail in Master/Detail Relationship

I have a Master-Detail relationship established between two tables.  I am able to save changes to the master with no problem.  Using the exact same code (except with the query data set name changed to to the detail result set instead of the master result set), no errors are generated but no changes are saved to the detail table.  Do I need to do anything special to save changes to the detail set?
