Java Application take too much memory

Dear All,

We've created a Java Application using JBuilder. Is a C/S application, in
3-tier model, the client and midtier are Java applications, the last tier is
a SQL databases. The SQL connection is made via ODBC drivers. Between client
and server we are using Soap. I believe you've got the main picture
regarding the application complexity for this time. We deployed the client
application to all client machines that require that, so we've deployed the
JRE1.3.1+our jars. The thing is that launching the application with
'javaw.exe -classpath "REQUIRED_LIBS1;REQUIRED_LIBS2;...REQUIRED_LIBSn"' the
application executes successfuly. Till here everything is just fine. But
checking the amount of memory it takes I was surprissed to se that initialy
is about 18-20 MB and during the day, when the user is using the app. it
takes more than 40-75 MB of RAM. What is doing the garbage collector? I was
expected that all the objects destroyed by application will be released from
memory, in this way the amount of memory used by the application can be
restored to a decent size for the client machine.

Maybe I'm wrong, but please fox, point me in the right direction: what can
we do in order to keep this application consuming a decent size of memory.
It's not easy to ask the client to increase/upgrade the PC memory on the
fly, you know.
Any ideea?
