Sounds like the palette has been screwed up slightly.
To fix,
Tools | Configure Palette...
Select "Swing" from the 'Pages' list and then in the components list, double
click on javax.swing.JButton, which should be the first item.
If the JButton icon does not display inside the Icon group box, select the
'Use JavaBean icon' radio button.
Remove the "Hello World" text from the 'Initialization string' textbox. That
is not what it is for. The initialization string is there if you want to
override the designers default way of initializing the bean ('new MyBean()'
or 'Beans.instantiate(this.getClass().getClassLoader(),"mypackage.MyBean")'
depending on the settings in Project | Project Properties | <Code Style>) to
generate code that calls a static factory method that you specify. Examples
of this are the struts at the other end of the swing palette which are of
type Component but are initialized with Box.createVerticalStrut(8).

JButton on the Design pallette. It usually should be a button with "OK" on
it. Instead what I have is a blank button. When mouse is passed over the
blank button it shows "javax.swing.JButton = HelloWorld"
