You need to use different HTML tags with swing applets. It's explained
in the sun docs somewhere. You use an <embed> tag to load the java
plugin, the default jvm you get when you use an <applet> tag is only
compatable with jdk1.1 (or less in some cases) which doesn't know what
swing is all about.
