If you're running JBuilder on the bundled IBM JVM, run, don't walk, to
Sun's download page and get Sun's JDK 1.3.

IBM's Linux 1.3 JVM's debugger is so broken it's not worth dealing with.

As for the stability, Java machines from IBM and Sun both are quite picky about
the glibc version.  There have been many problems caused by the betas for 
the GNU glibcs, especially the ones of the vintage Red Hat released on their
7.0.  I don't know what flavor glibc your version SuSE has on it.

How much ram does your machine have?  If it's running a lot of ram-hungry
apps, the JVM may start swapping, and swapping kills performance for everything.

Which applications have you experienced difficulty with?
