Hi, As a ex-J++ developer, I can give you a few points of advice if you want your apps to be compatible with Java: 1) Don't use the screen generators: They are 100% incompatible with Java. You can actually use another program's screen generator to maintain your screens, such as the free version of JBuilder. If you use swing, get the swingall.jar for Java 1.1 from java.sun.com. 2) Don't use Microsoft ADO database access. You may use the Microsoft JDBC/ODBC bridge since you can always switch to another bridge later and it should work with a few changes. 3) Don't use any com.ms.* packages. They also are completely incompatible. 4) Don't use anything that is a delegate or uses a delegate. For event handlers, use only standard Java event handlers (i.e. java.* javax.* packages) (3 and 4 actually cover 1 and 2, but are more clear) If you do anything above, you'll be in Microsoft-only land, and Microsoft has announced that J++ will not be in Visual Studio .net (the next version). They are promoting their "C#" language which is currently vaporware. If you avoid the above 4 points, you can switch to another environment with no problem. Kaffee is supposed to support delegates on other platforms, but you won't have MS COM to work with unless you're running Windows.
