Hi, Oldrich.

What you are experiencing is a set of known problems in Java printing,
particularly in the Windows port.  Check out the Java Developer Connection

and in particular look at bugs #4084038 and #4079786 including the Sun
replies.

There was an original problem in JDK 1.1.4 and earlier, an attempted fix in
JDK 1.1.5 which wasn't correct, plus JDK 1.2beta3 reverted to the 1.1.4
behavior. The good news is that it's all supposed to get fixed in both 1.1.7
and 1.2beta4.

You can work around all this and print correctly.  If, in particular, your
need is to print text documents, I've developed a JavaBean (also usable as a
simple class) for doing  paginated printing of plain text documents from
Java.  It supports tabs, margins, line wrap, headers/footers, page numbering,
etc.  I have documented the parameters you need to get around the above
problems on different versions of the JDK.  I also have in the works a
version that will test which JDK and OS you are running and make these
settings automatically.

I have a free version of TextPrinter available for download from
http://www.wildcrest.com, so you can try it out and see if it meets your
needs.
