JTable difficult Q.

Entering the final and most complex stages of our application, using JDK
1.1.6 and Swing 1.0.2 (JFC), a few difficult problems arise.
I would really appreciate any help on this one.....

I have a simple table data model and use a JTable which is display only.
So far so good.
However, the first 3 columns should be fixed with name, type and address
eg, and that the fourth and remaining columns can be scrolled left and
right, in this case each column contains yearly data. The table can be
contained in a scrollpane, so scrollbars are not a problem, but

1) I cannot find any facility to split the table for scrolling, such as
in Access
2) My colleague had an idea to use 2 tables on a split-pane. I would
need a listener so that if one of the tables is scrolled vertically, the
other one follows so that row level data is not mismatched.

Any ideas please,
