From my standpoint "Borland" changed the name because a lot has happened in the last 18 months. If you look at the company 18 months ago, "Borland" was truly a struggling software company. In my opinion, Dell Yocam with the help of many people, has help focus the company on the big picture. That focus is to continue to do what they do best, help the programmer (independent or corporate) do the job better then any other tool. I think they are succeeding, the software industry is changing and the management team in place, (again) I believe is ready to take on the new challenges. With that said, 18 months ago "Borland" got a bad name in the corporate world, the enterprises did not have confidence in the direction of the corporation, they liked the products but did not want to invest in a company that was having trouble. In the enterprise world, making a bad software recommendation can cost you a career. "Borland" turned the profits around, made some good business decisions including, licensing Paradox to Corel, making Interbase it's own company with it's own resources, investing and developing the JavaBean specification with sun, acquiring Open Environment, and of course acquiring Visigenic . All of these things have change "Borland" internally... with a new direction technically, management wise, and a focus on the Enterprise... this dictates a change in the name... Inprise. By the way, I myself am still getting used to the name, but my customers seem to really like the name and the new focus. So, from my standpoint it has been a positive 18 months and I am looking forward to the next!
