Kent: AOL and the Dial-up Networking in Windows knows how to read the registry to launch your dialer. Java doesn't get to look there. If you could figure out a way to launch DUN from a command line, you could use Runtime.exec(). I've been poking around for a few months on this one with no help from MS. DUN seems to be launched by calling into a .dll with a key that comes from one or more places in the registry. MS isn't forthcoming on this one. Good Luck! -Rich Kent Mestayer wrote: > > If AOL Instant Messaging can automatically launch my default dial up > networking connection, why can't I? > > Anyone know the secrets of how this is done in Java? -- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Rich Wilkman Senior Quality Assurance Engineer Borland JBuilder Team If you see something that looks like an opinion up there, it's mine and mine alone.
