List horiz scrollbar - shows up in Netscape, doesn't in appletviewer

Can anyone explain why the horizontal scrollbar on a List _does_ display
when running an applet in Netscape but does not display in JBuilder's
appletviewer? This is for a List that has strings that are very long. I
wasted an hour or so of time yesterday trying to figure out which
property to set to get the scrollbar to appear, or whether we needed to
use another list component, because I was running and testing using the
appletviewer in JBuilder and could not get the scrollbar. But when I
showed the applet this morning to another developer, I used Netscape and
voila'! the horizontal scrollbar was there. Same data in the list both
times.

Vertical scrollbar is fine in both.

Still running JBuilder Pro on Pentium 75 with 32 M of memory. Maybe my
development machine will be here by Christmas :-)
