There never has been a 'javaw' on Linux, or any distribution aside from
Windows. The reason that 'javaw' exists is because Windows has a very
strange notion that an application that uses a window is a completely
different thing than one that uses a console window.

Unix based systems do not have this dumb idea. An application is an
application. It may write to standard output and standard error, and
those streams may be directed at a console window (or maybe not). An
application might also use a windowing system (such as X11) to open a
window. There is no reason the same application cannot do both.
