Thanks for your comments, as they were very encouraging and enlightening. You lost me on the last paragraph though. I was following you right up to that point. I'm not familiar with telnet as I never have had an occasion to use it. Perhaps you can explain briefly what line-oriented protocol is and line terminators. What are those? Could you show me some examples? I'm not familiar with CR-LF. What's that? Alan
