I think I'll take my client program to some other computer and try it 
outside of the LAN and see what happens there.

The thing is, I can use my Netscape browser to type in
http://www.mss-webdesign.ca and have no problem seeing my web site. Mind
you, the only difference is that the router is channelling the requests
on port 80.  Whereas my server-side app and client-side app are set for
port 5000.  That shouldn't make any difference, should it?
