In our application, servers sometimes cannot respond to requests or cannot complete sending files. (We deliberately overload the servers.) Currently the application jams because it's waiting for replies from the server which simply won't arrive. I have already devised a way by join()ing another thread, but that's not exactly a good solution. How can we (preferably using Sun's HTTP implementation) set a timeout that will interrupt the wait?

These properties: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/net/properties.html sun.net.client.defaultConnectTimeout (default: -1) sun.net.client.defaultReadTimeout (default: -1) Obviously these won't translate across JVMs -- Owen
