I tried your suggestion and it didn't work.

Lori,

You suggested that I rename my directories to solve the problem. I tried
that twice and it didn't change anything. So I created a whole new set of
directories and moved the java files into them. I then created a whole new
Project. And selected "Make Project."

The new project seems to be plagued by the same problems including some of
the same error codes.

Specifically:

  a.. "TextPanel.java": Error #: 901 : package COM.edugames.common stated in
source C:\Code\com\edugames\common\TextPanel.java does not match directory
COM.edugames.common at line 1, column 22

Note: the "COM" is still there, but this is a totally NEW Project with NEW
Directories.

The old path was CodeJB/com.edugames.common. The new path is
Code/com.edugames.common.

Now I also have problems with Classes in the "games" Package Directory.

I get this error from Base in the structure window where it references a
file in the same directory::

a.. Class ControlPanel not found in class com.edugames.games.Base at line
19
However, if I go the edit panel tab for ControlPanel and click back to the
tab for Base, the error goes away.

The same for D and other references I have in Base. However, when I try to
compile Base again, all the error come back. I even retyped both the lines
in the java file "package com.edugames.games;" and "import
com.edugames.common.*;" and this didn't stop the problem.

I tried changing my source path for both test and default to both

C:/Code/com/edugames/games

and

C:/Code/

And that didn't work.

My new Project "jpx" file is at C:Code/games

My header for the "games" files is

"package com.edugames.games;

import com.edugames.common.*;"

My header for the "common" files is

"package com.edugames.common;"

Going into the Project Properties, my working directory is:

C:Code/com/edugames/games

And my source path for both test and default is presently set at:

C:Code/

I can get files to compile if they do not reference any other non compiled
files. If I compile D for example, Base sees it and has no problems with
it, however, if i take D.class out of the output directory, Base can't
reference it anymore. So the reference from Base to the output directory
works.

I think the underlying problem might be taking a project from Visual Caf to
Jbuilder two months ago where a lot of the output files were already three
and could be referenced, When I did the Rebuild, they were cleaned out and
now I can only get files that do not reference other files to compile.

Lori, any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks Pete Antoniak

What does dir -x show as the name of that com directory from a console?
You're fighting the OS here, plain and simple. There's even settings
in Windows to hide all cap stuff, etc.

Rich,

Did the console thing.

from C:\Code\com> I typed "dir -x."
and got

"Volume in drive C is V207
Volume Serial Number is 1F03-1991
Directory of C:\Code\com"

NOTE: Lower Case "com".
I don't believe it's the OS for several reasons:

One- I totally redid the whole directory structure by creating and naming
the directories by hand.
Two- The error says:
"package COM.edugames.common stated in
source C:\Code\com\edugames\common\TextPanel.java does not match directory
COM.edugames.common at line 1, column 22"

Note: that the word preceeding the uppercase "COM" is package, not directory
and the reference is to the directory at line 1, column 22 of the java code.
Also note that it got the OS directory right. i.e.
C:\Code\com\edugames\common\TextPanel.

It has the path right, the package wrong. I also retyped the whole line
'package com.edugames.common' in the code and the problem is still there.

Pete:

Still don't know what verision of JB you are using, but wipe out the
dependency cache for the project and try again.

The only other problem that VCafe folks seem to hit is also related to
sloppy path handling related to not having distinct source and output paths.

JB uses the path reported -- nothing special of it's own internally.
