Advice needed - TextArea & mixed font styles

Hi,
I am developing a chat program in which I cannot use swing - so I can only rely on the basic java API (that is - what AWT has to offer).

What I need is a TextArea (or such) component, which can hold mixed font styles (different colors etc.) inside the same text area.

Does anyone know how do I do it, or any small java class which can do the same?

Long, long ago I looked at a set of components like this that went by
the acronym "KFC". But it was a long time agao. Maybe you can search
and find them. I didn't have much luck just now.
