JNI Invocation: can I dynamically choose the jvm.dll that is loaded?

(This question is a cross-over Java/C++/Win32 question, and since no
group
exists to answer questions specifically about JNI issues, I figured the
only
solution was to cross-post. Apologies to those who are inconvenienced.)
I'm writing a program to launch my Java applications (along the lines of
Borland's
.exe launchers, but hopefully more portable and more general, and maybe
even open-
source.) At present I'm linking against a .lib file, and then making
sure my
jvm.dll is in the PATH when I run the launcher.

This isn't what I want, so ...

Is there any way I can change the PATH which is searched for jvm.dll
*during* my
program, but *before* the program tries to use any jvm.dll functions?
