default and cancel buttons, shortcut keys for buttons

Is there an easier way to implement default and cancel buttons (ie.
buttons that get pressed when the user hits enter or escape) than by e
explicitly processing the KEY_PRESSED event for every control on a
window?

What is the best way to create default and cancel buttons, and
associate shortcut keys with buttons. (e.g. make ALT-A activate a
certain button).
