If I want to convert a string to a double, why do all the examples show String S=args[0]; double D=Double.valueOf(S).doubleValue(); Why not double D=Double(S).doubleValue(); ?? Next Question: Why is the isDigit() function called char C='5'; if (Character.isDigit(C)) ... So I am calling a class method that refers to no object? I would think that it would make more sense to use Character(C).isDigit() or to have a standalone function isDigit(C) Just trying to figure out the method to the madness.
