A related bug:

{
    MyObject o;

    try
    {
        o = new MyObject();
        // some other stuff that uses o
    }
    catch (Exception e)
    {
	o = MY_STATIC_FINAL_OBJECT;
    }

    o.solveAllMyProblems();
}

reports the same error (108). In this case, it looks like
a different beast.
