Although I have over 20 years of programming experience I find myself stumbling along with java. I installed Win95, bought and installed JB Pro. I bought some recommended books and checked one out from the U library. Later, I downloaded the java stuff from the sun web site and installed it. The plan is to have a good grip on java before writing any "real" programs, so I'm writing some small "exercise" type programs to start. Being a command like type of guy, I used my old DOS text editor (TSE Pro, mushed to work like the MicroStar that came with Turbo Pascal 4.0 editor toolbox - the win 95 version is coming in the mail) to create some programs. I then do javac test.java >x and my errors pour onto the screen. The "x" file is empty. How do I capture the error list? I tried to start off with the Borland IDE, but things were way too slow and there seemed to be far more stuff than I needed. I figure I'll try it again in another week or so after I have a beeter feel for java. Anybody want to trade a few jars of homemade salsa or rhubarb jam for the newbie telephone torture?
