Hello all,

I have some Russian text stored in a .DBF file, using one of the PC encoding
formats - most probably Windows Cyrillic. Now, I would like to get this data
into an Oracle database, and have it there so that it can be displayed
correctly by a Java program.....with as little work as possible :-).

I have looked at some of the documentation for the ByteToChar classes, and I
am reasonably sure that this is what I need, however my simple tests didn't
seem to work. What I did was to copy one of the string fields into my Java
source file using cut and paste. This of course did not produce results :-(.

I imagine my problem is that I need to somehow get at my original data in
byte[] form rather than char[] form. But I am not sure how to do this.

The data from the .DBF will be read once, so a one-time conversion process
will be fine. The data will of course be stored in a Oracle table and needs
to be read out each time. If that data could be in the correct format
immediately after the getString(), well that would be great.

Any tips will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance,
David Sykes
