issue with PrinterJob.pageDialog(attributes)
#166

Hello,

i am using
       PrinterJob job = PrinterJob.getPrinterJob();
       job.pageDialog(attributes);
       javax.print.attribute.Attribute a[]=attributes.toArray();
to show a pageDialog for the user so that he can adjust his
 print margins. This works in principle. But: under certain
 circumstances the user cannot change the print margins. The
 dialog changes the value in the edit box back to its previous
 value.

My first thought was that the system only tries to avoid silly
 values, but after more tests i found out that this not the
 source of the problem. For example i once used a right margin
 of 5 mm. Printout ok with 5 mm. Then i changed it to 50 mm.
 Printout ok with 50 mm. Ok. But if i enter now the pageDialog
 again, i cannot change the right margin back to 5 mm (the
 system automatically switches back to 50 mm, although 5 mm is a
 perfectly reasonable value).

My beta tester is somewhat irritated by the behaviour of the
 dialog but i told him that its a system dialog. :-)

Did somebody have a similar problem?

Oliver

Hi,

after some research in the bug database i found that this is a
known bug with the print margins.

http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6263423

It seems that it doesnt matter whether one uses the native page
 setup dialog (PrinterJob.pageDialog(PageFormat)) or whether
 one uses the cross-platform Java page setup dialog
 (PrinterJob.pageDialog(PrintRequestAttributeSet)).

Now i dont use a page setup dialog anymore, and use fix margins.
:)

regards

Oliver
