Missing Beep

Hi. I've built a small application using JBuilder 2.5K. Under a certain circumstance the program executes a beep command. This runs fine from the pc I'm developing it on -- either from running in the IDE or from a executable jar. However when I copy the jar to another pc the beep no longer works. The other parts of the app. do work -- textBox, dialogs, .... Any insight as to what's missing or wrong with the other systems?

How exactly does it "execute a beep command"? Are you calling
Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().beep()?

I suspect this depends on a PC speaker setup (i.e. not using regular
sound-card sounds). Perhaps your other PC doesn't have a built-in PC
speaker?

Try opening a CMD window, and executing "echo ^G" from there (by "^G" I
mean "Control-G"). If you don't get a beep, start by debugging that
problem first..

Shankar, thank you for your response. Yes, the call is as you suggest -- "Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().beep();". Both systems, mine and the problem one will perform a sound through the PC Speaker when cntl-G is entered at the command line. The program when run on my PC makes the beep through the sound card not the PC Speaker. Also the problem PC will play a streamed audio from the web -- so I beleive the sound card is working in the problem PC. Any other thoughts? --- Mike

Good debugging info. Alas, I'm fresh out of ideas now..
