Hi. I have used this successfully to send/receive files on a laptop/PC using traditional modem. However, I could not get this working over a network as I could not select 'passive' mode, with our LAN using a proxy server. With V 1.5, is there any way of setting this up as passive or to use proxy, or should I be looking using http? I've revisited the sun web site/help/forums but all examples seem to use ftp class without these options. Regards, TED

Is passive mode the issue, or is the proxy server the issue? They are
two very different things. Or are you trying to solve both problems?

Hi. Sorry to add confusion, but the issue is really ability to use 'passive' mode. I believe this is necessary because of using proxy as it assigns dynamic ports & denies protocol handshake. Take a look at the Jakarta Commons/Net library at: http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/net/ It has full passive mode support. -- Kevin Dean [TeamB] Dolphin Data Development Ltd. http://www.datadevelopment.com/ NEW WHITEPAPERS Team Development with JBuilder and Borland Enterprise Server Securing Borland Enterprise Server http://www.datadevelopment.com/papers/index.html Please see Borland's newsgroup guidelines at http://info.borland.com/newsgroups/guide.html

I would strongly recommend it as well. A while back, I did a project
where FTP was going to be critical. Despite some experience to the
contrary, I still had that hard-to-shake feeling that you get what you pay
for, so I started out looking at commercial libraries. But every one I
tried turned out to have significant problems, mostly with the handling of
large files. I finally tried Jakarta Commons/Net, and it worked
flawlessly.
