Serial Port Communication

Hi,

I have an instrument connected to my PC via the serial port. I need to
write a rogram to communicate with it and download testdata that was
collected.

I found the javacomm20-win32.zip on the web. However, the installation
talks about jdk1.1.6 and the files are from 98. Does anyone know if this
package would work with jbuilder 2005. Maybe there is another way to
solve this?

Thank you,

Magnus Bjorkman

That's the one. Serial communications hasn't really changed all that
much ;-)

Here's a nice article on using it:

Thanks.

Now, is there an easy way to import this into jBuilder? I have never
added anything before.

Sorry, I read the answer and responded before I checked the URL.
Everything is there.

Thanks again.

I'm not have a great week ...
I send my app to people for testing and everything works except the
communication on the Serial Port. I create a new directory on a new
partition on my PC and try myself. No problem. I have an old Win98
machine that I try my app on and it runs fine except for the Serial port
communication. After copying javax.com.proprties and win32com.dll to
every possible java directory I still can't get it to work. I only get
an option pane with Exception [OK]. I get the BlackBox program to run
but only to find that - no ports identified. Back to my WinXP and check
where I have copied the files but nothing strange or new, same lib and
bin as I tried.

Anyone has any ideas on how to debug this?

Magnus

PS. I went into my Windows system setting and verified that the COMport
settings were OK.

There's really very little information on javacomm. The only thing I
can think of is to make sure that win32com.dll is on the SYSTEM PATH.

Other than that, Googling for javacomm and Win98...
