Bill:

If there is a property on a widget that does not have a Property Editor
you get the standard "type" editor.  If there are any objects of the
appropriate type in scope in the file you are designing, they will be in
the list.  For example, if you were to instantiate a DefaultTableModel
in code, it would then show up in the drop down list for Model on the
JTable.

Even better examples can be found in the swing tutorials on the Javasoft
site.
