steve,

thanks again for answering.

>>Version of the BDE? What kind of table? dBASE, Paradox, other? What level of
dBASE (or Paradox) table is used? What is the defined data type of that Price
column? Does this abnormal behavior occur only with this table or with all?

nt 4 workstation with service pack3, vdb 7.0, bde 4.5, table type dbase 7,
language 'weurope'ansi, field data type N8.2
the error occurs with all tables and number types on indexed and non indexed
fields.

>>My results all produced values with two decimal places (even in those
instances where the decimal values were zeros). This using BDE 5.02, Database
Desktop 7, and a dBASE 7 table (the Price column defined as NUMERIC with a scale
of 9 and precision of 2).

yours is bigger than mine. i bought dbase 7.0 four months ago and it came with
bde 4.5 (seems that i should have asked for the actual version...). do you think
that your version 5.02 might make the difference?

>>Not sure, but your numeric formatting (international decimal symbols) may be
playing a part.

i am using german dbase on a computer with brazilian windows nt and german input
scheme. i checked the number separators and decimal digits - everything is the
way it should be. although the language mixing may be surprising to dbase, i
would not understand why i get correct values in the first, uncalculated column
and wrong values in the other columns. i would expect country settings to have
an overall general effect - everything or nothing should be wrong .
vdb does is not cut the decimal digits but rounds them. so the results are
somewhat correct.
in the meantime i have installed the interbase sql server that comes together
with vdb. queries on the sample-data return correct values.

>>Where are you seeing these rounded results? Within the dBASE interface?
yes, as a result of my local-sql-query accessing a standard dbase table from
inside dbase, (no shell, no programming, just running the query with f2). i do
not use any external software to retrieve or display the data, no shell...

in my opinoin there are three possible reasons left:
the bde version,
the language mixing
a brain-problem

do you have an idea where else i could look?
