You don't need paradox, just as you don't need dbase to create DBF files, 
Winword, Excel, Winfax, Access and tons of other apps can create and use 
those, because it's an easy, well-documented way to organize data.

It's completely automatic in the background. The paradox file _format_  
has all the fieldtypes which the big backend SQL servers have. (money, 
timestamp, long, BCD etc which DBFs don't have, or not in every level)

 So depending on your queries, programs etc, VdB needs to store some 
records in local files first and so creating paradox files is the obvious 
solution, since it fits all fileformats no matter what you use or what 
your DBF table level setting is (3-7). 

Only we dbase types are a bit uncomfortable with it.<BG>
