I am having a similar problem finding text fragments within fields. I have a database that contains information on a few thousand chemicals. Chemical names can be long and although a name may contain a lot of information, a name can not be broken up into multiple fields. For example - I might want to find a chemical in inventory that has "diamine" somewhere in the name. In VDB5.5 I can find name fragments as follows. locate for lcValue$CHEMICALS->CHEM_INDEX * The value is taken from an entryfield on my search form. I've been trying to use the sql designer to do the same thing using "like" under the criteria tab - but with no success. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Thank you for any assistance. -- Richard Sandieson Allegheny College Box 15 Chemistry Dept. Meadville, PA 16335
