SQL in V7 parameter passing

I have a couple of problems that SQL could fix for me if I knew how to pass
parameter to it.

I have hundreds of reports created in crystal that use one of four var.
(j1,j2,j3,j4) to select the records to print. I have converted all the
reports to the new report styles and all my select criteria are out the
windows but the col. and formula were translated. A SQL is also created
that "select *". If I could pass a parameter to the where cause then I
could have all my reports fix in no time The book(&help file) only
reference to passing parameter is to "where fieldvar = :var1" no examples
any where else. I can not get the SQL designer to except a parameter. I
have create it as public in the command window but it's still invisible. I
can find and documentation on how to pass it to the SQL designer. If I hand
code it "where customer.customerno = :j1" when it runs a error is generated
that it not allowed.

I have also converted all my qbe file to data member and they also have the
four var. The SQL statements will not translate the four variables.

if anyone knows the answer or where to go to find a answer please email me
(I'm only on the news section every couple weeks an I afraid that your
posting mite get lost)
