Scott I have been using local SQL in apps for the last three months. I do not have any type of DBMS on my server, just DBFs. There are some draw backs using VDB SQL as VDB has a sub-set of the ANSI 92 SQL, but I have managed to overcome all. The problem is SQL does not support all field types nor multible tables well. Date and memo are two I have found that are not support well. To insert and update date fields you must use the SQLEXEC() function and use text string date format. I have found no way to use the memory replacement operator ( : ) with dates. Memo fields as it turns out are BLOB fields in SQL. VDB will not support BLOB fields in an SQL command. I have resorted to a function that once the record is written in SQL, I use DML to find the record and update the memo field. Some what a pain when you are trying to stick with all SQL. All in all, I find for most things SQL is much easer to work with. But not to worry, Version 7.0 fixes all these problems, WE HOPE! It has SQL and rowset classes. In two weeks VDB 7.0 ships and you'll have it all. Joe jyuzamas@sprynet.com Scott Pendleton wrote in message <33AB435D.3264@bigfoot.com>... >A superb answer.
