Depending on which SQL server you chose there can be very
little setup required or a lot. VdB Client/Server includes
a utility to migrate dBase tables to an SQL database. The
only thing you need to change in your programs is
the USE lines to include more information (basically
database.tablename instead of DBF filename) and make
sure index tags are the proper case (it matters for most
SQL servers - NAME and name are two different index tags)

dBase automatically converts you regular dBase commands
into what the server requires. It should only take a
day or two to get your program using tables from the
server. More depnding on the server you choose.

I've found MS SQL Server easy to setup and configure.
Oracle is a lot harder (you have to install Oracle
networking - SQL*NET) and it's tools not well though
out. But Oracle seems to look better on a resume :)
