Greg,
  the programmer's guide has a whole section on SQL, to include using the
Select command.  You
will find SQL is very easy to use and there are not many basic commands to
learn.  Also when you use  help at the command windows it gives you two
selections Select and Select(local SQL).  If you pick the latter Visual
dBase will give you an very detailed explanation of the Select command.  In
addiition you can also  display example of using the command.
