I am currently converting many of my Access tables to SQL 7 tables (the
Access 97 tables are becoming extremely big).  Things appeared to be going
well until I came across the following problem:

In Access my tables have a Primary key that increments by a value of 1 each
time a user enters a new record (pretty typical).  Creating these tables in
SQL 7 goes fine (including creating a primary key on the same field that is
the primary key in Access), appending the values into SQL 7 goes fine (no
errors even with a primary key).  The problem occurs when I try to set the
column as an Identity column in SQL and increment the values by 1 (I am
setting the Identity seed equal to 1 as well).  This problem occurs under
many circumstances.   The first is when I append the records first then try
to set the Primary key column to an identity column.  The table simply can
not be saved.  The second is I will create the column as a Primary key and
identity column before the append process.  In this case the append process
can not complete due to key violations.

Changing the seed value does not work.  What am I doing wrong?  I assume
this type of conversion is doable and I am doing something very simple
wrong.  Help?
